I generally don't like "hardcore" music, however there is the occasional song I like. What usually turns me off is the really low, screechy vocals. The instrumentals are more often fine than not.
I like Marilyn Manson, but he's the only one I know well that I like XD

I don't really like the low screechy stuff either, those are used more in metal though.

I would say growling is metal. Although more than just one genre have been known to use the screeching. All depends on the song.
