We all know the PS3 is pretty powerful. Blu-ray storage, generally better graphics, smoother game play. But what could they really do to make the next console be a "Must Buy" thing? Aside from upping the RAM, Video RAM, processor, what can they do? Sure everything could look smoother with being able to produce more pixels, but in the end is it really worth it? Thoughts?

I honestly can't even imagine. What the heck COULD they do next that isn't basic? Nothin' I can think of, I can tell you that much. xD;
Also, do you really think they'll just keep increasing the number? It makes sense, but I can't really see a sub-title for the next Sony console. =o

That's a good question. In terms of hardware, what kind of improvement will justify the purchase of an entirely new machine? The PS3 is much like a good gaming computer. But at least with a PC, owners have the option of upgrading specific components. If a PS4 follows Sony's past progression of simply upgrading the hardware capability of the core system, the PS3 would quickly become obsolete.
So I think their strategy of giving the PS3 a long life makes the most sense - unless they have their own secret tech which they believe could be a must buy.

Well we know most people love sony for the pushing of the hardware limits, but usually it takes time for developers to catch up, PS3 case in point. But new hardware is always coming. Will it be some sort of "super HD" that makes them move on and sucker us in? it surely isnt the 3D, as the PS3 can already do that. A simple hardware upgrade is not worth an entirely new console to me. Obviously a PS4 is a few years off but it makes me wonder what more they can do.

I hope they have support for PS1, PS2, and PS3 games standard on all versions of the next playstation system.

I am betting on backward compatability for PS3, but not for 1 or 2. No matter how many people want it, it is about how many people will utilize it. Also, companies want people to buy their systems for new, current games, not ones that are old and outdated. That is why they stopped making the PS3 BC in the first place.

i honestly think now it's just polishing whats there and getting better hardware. i mean, as ya said, where else can ya go. you already have social network intergration, streaming services, computer/console linking with media center ect. you can pretty much take those ideas and approch them differently, add bigger hard drives to allow for way more direct download games, but it's all stuff thats there now that would just be made better. so i don't really foresee much in earth shattering inovations outside the hardware with either the ps4 or xbox whatever
