I'm really excited about the Wii U but I have a couple concerns I'd like to get out first.
1.Price- I'm pretty sure Nintendo will keep this under control they always have in the past but after paying 250$ for the 3DS I'm not sure.
2.No Gamecube- What I mean is there will be no gamecube playback or controller ports. How am I gonna play Smash Bros.! This also leads into my next problem.
3.Controller- I don't know about this controller guys. Yes, the screen on it is pretty awesome and there's some other cool stuff but I have a lot of concerns with it too. First I could see the controller itself getting pretty expensive, those screens aren't cheap. Instead of triggers on the back there are buttons. Finally instead of analog sticks we get circle pads. Comon Nintendo, really! They work on the 3DS just fine and I understand completely because it's a portable. In that case I think the circle pad was actually a really good idea. This however is a console. They have no reason not to put analog sticks on the controller, there was obviously plenty of space!
4. No DVD or Blu-ray- I have a DVD player but I don't have Blu-ray player yet. I was hoping this would have a Blu-ray player since the PS3 does. This is the smallest problem but it would have been kind of nice.
Ok, enough of me nitpicking the Wii U! I'm really excited about what Nintendo has in store for us!

Blu-Ray is difficult, a lot of patents and agreements would need to happen between Sony and Nintendo again for that to happen. And the last time these 2 giants had a deal Nintendo screwed them pretty bad.

idk about you guys but I DO NOT purchase a gaming console for dvd or blu-ray playback... in fact I think it's stupid because it's just more wear and tear on these systems which are not all that cheap to begin with. That being said I'm also concerned about the controller... I don't so much mind the circle pads... everyone will adapt to them, and I'm sure they'll work just fine.... but like you said the controller is going to expensive and they're not going to sell them separately (I believe). Plus I think you're only going to be able to sync 2 controllers up to one system... which means your buddy would have to own a Wii U if they want to play so that they have a controller? I know personally I don't care too much for online play... I mean it's nice to have but I prefer to play with 3 of my buds in the same room. It's just a lot more fun when you can tell them to they're face how terrible they are haha. As for the price... it is what it is... Nintendo realizes that they need to be able to compete power wise with Microsoft and Sony because unfortunately the younger generation (generally speaking of course) of gamers really only care about graphics (doh!).

The Wii U controller will not be purchaseable separately as of now. That may change depending on what they do with the system or people breaking them. Multiplayer will be the main controller with additional Wii-motes taking the place of others. I am with you on the dvd/blu-ray aspect. I like my gaming consoles to game. But I refuse to spend 4-500 on a console and another 1-200 on a dvd/blu-ray player. If I can get them together cheaper I am more than fine with that. It is just sad that people almost require it of their systems or else it is junk. Leaves no room for companies to just make the players and make money, also keeping people having a job.

I don't require having a blu-ray/dvd player it would have been nice though. If the PS2 could have a dvd player in 2000(6th gen) and the PS3 could have a blu-ray player in 2006(7th gen) then I don't think the Wii U should have any problem having at least a dvd player in 2012(8th gen)! Speaking of PS2 I'm pretty sure it wouldn't have sold over 150 million units and still be in production today if there was no dvd player. That was a big part of the downfall of the dreamcast.

Eh discs are going to be a thing of the past sooner or later... anyway, I don't care to have my gaming console be able to play dvds or blu-rays... more wear and tear, and drives up the cost of the system. It's easier to go out and purchase a player of your choice than to replace a $3-500 game system. But that's me...
As for the Wii U... I hope it goes in the right direction. I love Nintendo, and many of their franchises. Motion controls are fun to a point, but then there are times when a game is just better being played the old fashioned way... I just hope Nintendo doesn't lose sight of that.

It is convenient to have a Blu-ray/ DVD player built in but definitely not a necessity. I don't want to play extra because I already have a Blu-ray and DVD player.

The Wii U is suppose to be more powerful than either of them. I'd be surprised if it had a price tag of less than $300... Nintendo has been good about keeping their prices down and trying to focus on innovation and fun family gaming, but at some point they need to try and get back the fans they lost to Sony and Microsoft and try to shake the kiddy image they unfairly have received. I think the Wii U is a step in that direction... although I wish they would drop the Wii name... I never really cared for it and wish they stuck with Revolution haha.

I forgot to mention that in my post. No dvd/blu-ray and no HDD to speak off drives costs down quite a bit.
